Join us for the release of a new Partnership for Public Service research report on agencies' use of student hiring programs.

"Leaving Talent on the Table: The Need to Capitalize on High Performing Student Interns" focuses on ways to leverage student interns as a strategic component of workforce planning, recruitment and hiring at the entry levels. For instance, the report examines the significant gap between the private and federal sectors in intern conversion rates - private employers report converting over half of their interns, whereas federal agencies convert fewer than 7 percent.

In addition, the Partnership will be launching its Center for Federal Internships and Fellowships, which houses the Making the Difference Federal Internship Program and the Federal Service Student Ambassadors Program. Both of these programs enhance agencies' ability to tap into interns as part of their outreach and hiring strategy.

  • Making the Difference Federal Internship Program: 30 students will be completing paid career-oriented internships in engineering and acquisition this summer while living together in dorms at The George Washington University. Selected in part for their commitment to public service, these students will participate in a series of professional development sessions designed to enhance their experience - and retention - in federal service.
  • Federal Service Student Ambassadors Program: 30 students completing federal internships will be chosen to be trained as peer advisors on federal opportunities. Ambassadors meet with students, faculty and career services professionals when they return to their respective campuses in the fall and also participate in ongoing training via monthly Partnership-led Webinars.
